Autum Asante is a 7-year old child not unlike many children of African descent who show keen interest in the artistic forms and expressions such as Hip Hop and Poetry.  She is blessed to have a father who has taken a strong interest in her education and development.

Autum is very talented and her intention has never been to offend anyone within or without her community by the use of her poetry and song.  It is unfortunate that her performance at the Peekskill Middle and High Schools has been interpreted this way by some elements of our society.   Her presentations during Black History Month are always geared toward exposing the truth of the African experience in America not only to highlight the positive aspects of our culture but also to shed light on those dark shadows which continue to hover over the psyche of the African race universally.

Autum, though her poetry has refused to detach the horrors of slavery and the brutality of the African Slave Trade and enslavement from Black History especially during her performances in the month of February.  This child who has learned and studied the horrors of her past as an African in America has defined the act of subjugating an entire race as the work of devils, in her poetry.  Yet this should not be taken out of context by members of the media.  Autum through the art of poetry, is communicating the idea that the African race has not healed from these wounds and her poetry reflects an urgency to confront the horrors of this period with an unapologetic boldness in order to empower her race.

Autum is not being manipulated by her parents. She has kind and loving parents who like any other try to exert a positive influence on her life as much as they can.  However, her love of the arts and her adeptness at poetry is her God given talent and one which she has chosen to use for the positive development of her race and her community.

Autum who is extremely talented for her age is a student of Black Nationalism.  As expounded and lived by the Right Excellent Marcus Garvey, Harriet Tubman, Sojourna Truth, Nat Turner, Malcolm X, and Elijah Muhammad….She realizes that the Africans who stayed alive during the atrocities of slavery and the middle passage did so by holding on to the hope of returning to their families one day and like her ancestors before her, she feels indebted to honor their memory by working for the realization of their dream of African Redemption.

Meet Autum for the first time or see a familiar face as this poet shares her story her purpose and her mission tonight on CNN’s Paula Zhan.  PLEASE keep in mind that this segment may get pulled at the last minute pending breaking news. However if it doesn’t air tonight It will be aired ASAP!

Going to Africa Who go enligt the world

Well... When you all can see Im from brazil, I saw SisMaryDread speaking on , that thing of online mentors etc. Well , its really true we young rasta found a lot of difficulty, I know it... My mom had me on this wicked system, and from the system I became one rasta because of rastas with more experience who was a nyabinghi group too, and they teach I a lot of things ... So I know how it is to go out of babylon alone , if I have to walk alone I will ... Tell so how to prepare in the nature your house, plantation , teach agriculture, this is a substitute of a mentor. My English is not very good , just I feeling ...

I send energy
Love to all

Editor's note: Unfortunately the idea of online mentors had to be abandoned owing to problems with organisation and vetting of mentors etc.

Rasta Youth is good thing, more knowledge of truth and morality and less actions and examples of ignorance. I Rasta youth and I know many Rasta and each one looks at life and day to day livity with respect. When we all get together we talk about nature and all the good things around us but we also talk a lot about the bad things. We need not to forget the horrible things going on with our world as a result of our kind (human kind). We talk about what have people done to destroy life and how Jah would perceive the human race as a mass. Would Jah look at us as sinners or as a race that has lost all hope, i don't think so.  I think Jah follows the righteous and in hope compels us to try to change the world for the better. I would like to believe that Jah has a plan and that an uprising of love and life will emerge but at the same time i know it is we the people who need to change ourselves. We need to get in the streets  not only in Jamaica not only In the United Kingdom or United States we need to be everywhere spreading love for life not money or materials.... life! So if you are at school or anywhere and you see something you do not approve of try to enlighten that person into making better decisions for the sake of all morality and sane human judgment.. Praise Jah
