BLESSED AFRICA DAY! The day our Holy Father of Africa Emperor Haile Selassie I, the Founding Father of Africa now recognized by the AU (African Union.

Below is an informative report from Mauritius and an excerpt from the book of a Memoir by the Former Assistant Minister & Press Secretary to Haile Selassie. The Book is entitled "In the Palace of Emperor Haile Selassie" by Ayalew W. Giorgis. Southern Heritage Press (2002). St. Petersburg, Florida.

"Many observers were taken by surprise when spectacular events took place in Ethiopia with the unfolding of the OAU (Organization of African Unity) in Addis Ababa (May 25, 1963). It happened because all circumstances favored it and because the statesmanship of one man, Haile Selassie, befitted it more than any among the leaders of the time. He was not of the Nkrumahs, Sekou Toures or Keitas brand or the Tafawa Balewas or even the Kenyatta of his close friend and good neighbor, Kenya. Nor was he a moderate like the American puppet Tolbert Tubman or Siaka Stevens or Senghor of Senegal. Haile Selassie was a special brand from the Ancient House but also a progressive Monarch of the African and trans-Red Sea part of the globe imbued ad galvanized wit the rise of African nationalism at the advent of the OAU...ever since he first let Nkrumah join him in the set of visions he had for Africa, the two men seemed to show the continent that militant and moderate, and monarchy at that, could work together for the common greater cases of Africa, primarily the freeing of the continent from the last vestiges of colonialism."
