Julian Marley, son of the Legendary Bob Marley, One Love Festival performance confirmed!Julian Marley – son of the Legendary Bob Marley, approached the One Love Festival expressing his interest in performing at this year’s event which celebrates his father’s infamous 1978 One Love Concert. It is with great honour that on behalf of the One Love Festival Team I can confirm Julian Marley will be playing an exclusive Saturday night set on our One Love Stage,
Julian Marley has been blessed by his father’s great talent, from a young age music has been his life, at the age of only five he cut his first demo tape, recording a version of his father's classic composition, "Slave Driver," at the Marley family's Tuff Gong studio in Kingston. Since that auspicious beginning, Julian has devoted himself to a life in music, mastering a variety of instruments and writing songs that reflect his dedication to spiritual upliftment and social change. Three albums later Julian has toured the world, both as a solo performer backed by his Uprising Band and as a member of Ghetto Youths International, a musical collective whose core members are Julian and his brothers, Stephen and Damian. Stephen and Damian Marley have both contribute to his new album “Awake” that Julian will perform with the Uprising Band at this years One Love Festival alongside some of his fathers Classics in the Spirit of his father Bob Marley.
One Love Festival was born as the UK’s 30th Anniversary celebration of Bob Marleys famous 1978 One Love Concert. Where Thirty-two years ago Bob Marley performed at the first One Love Peace Concert in Kingston. It was held during a political civil war between the Jamaican Labour Party and the People's National Party and it peaked during Marley & The Wailers' performance of Jammin, when the singer joined the hands of political rivals, Michael Manley (PNP) and Edward Seaga (JLP) accompanied by a flash of lighting and clap of thunder from the heavens. Following the concert the opposing factions having seen that their leaders weren't hell bent on killing each other cooled down the conflict and eased the erupting civil war.
Festival Organiser, Dan Wiltshire, commented One Love Festival is now in its 3rd year and is so honoured the Son of Bob Marley to not only acknowledge our festival but ask to perform has just blown me away. Julian will be representing his father memory and spirit at this years event. We originally put this event on to raise awareness of Bob Marley’s message 3yrs later we actually have a Marley performing. It is something we could only have dreamed of and we feel truly honoured to have Julian Marley performing. Its going to be a truly amazing and memorable show and we can’t wait”

About the original One Love Concert (1978):
The One Love Peace Concert was a large concert held on April 22nd, 1978, at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. This concert was held during a political civil war in Jamaica between opposing parties; Jamaican Labour Party and the People’s National Party. The concert came to its peak during Bob Marley & The Wailers’ performance of “Jammin”, when Marley joined the hands of political rivals, Michael Manley (PNP) and Edward Seaga (JLP).
Bob Marley said the following as he called the two politicians onstage and held their hands above his head: “His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie, I run lightning, leading the people of the slaves to shake hands. . . To show the people that you love them right, to show the people that you gonna unite, show the people that you’re over bright, show the people that everything is all right. Watch, watch, watch, what you’re doing, because. . I’m not so good at talking but I hope you understand what I’m trying to say. I’m trying to say, could we have, could we have, up here onstage here the presence of Mr. Michael Manley and Mr. Edward Seaga. I just want to shake hands and show the people that we’re gonna unite . . . we’re gonna unite . . . we’ve got to unite . . . The moon is high over my head, and I give my love instead. The moon is high over my head, and I give my love instead.”
